Buena Vista, VA - The Southern Virginia women's basketball team extended their impressive win streak to 9, maintaining a flawless 11-0 conference record with a convincing 78-53 victory over the Fighting Squirrels of Mary Baldwin.
A remarkable aspect of the game was the extensive participation, as 17 different players from the Knights hit the floor to contribute to their success.
While starting off slow in the shooting department, Southern Virginia ramped up their offense in the second half, resulting in a comfortable win with 13 Knights contributing points to reach a total of 78.
Aysia Foster emerged as the leading scorer for the Knights, tallying 13 points with a perfect 5-5 from the field. Ruth Kempler also made a significant impact, coming close to a double-double with 11 points and seven rebounds.
Despite facing challenges in three-point shooting, the Knights showcased their strength in rebounding with a commanding 42 to 25 advantage, leading to 12 crucial second chance points. Hailey Paige played a pivotal role on the defensive end, recording 3 blocks and four rebounds.
Dominating the paint, the Knights scored 38 points compared to the Squirrels' 16. Southern Virginia's exceptional ball movement resulted in 24 assists, further highlighting their team synergy.
