Buena Vista, VA - In a closely contested matchup that unfolded down to the final seconds, the Southern Virginia men's basketball team faced a 60-65 defeat against the 2-seeded Greensboro College.

The Knights initiated play with back-to-back steals, surging to an 8-4 lead after consecutive layups from Koa Baker. However, Greensboro found their rhythm with just 4 minutes left in the first half, capitalizing on a cold stretch from the Southern Virginia offense. The Knights entered halftime trailing 26-31 after three minutes without a made bucket.

Despite limiting turnovers to just one in the first half, Greensboro's free throws gave them a slight edge.

In the second half, the Knights faced a slow start, tallying three turnovers. However, three-pointers from DJ Green, Phil Harris, and Alex Weiland sparked a comeback, reducing the Pride's lead to just five points at 54-39 with 3 and a half minutes remaining. A back-and-forth exchange ensued, but the Pride secured the win with critical free throws down the stretch.

The Knights outrebounded the Pride 34-28, and Malakai tied his career-best with 14 rebounds, a block, and also had 10 points for a double-double.

Baker led the team in scoring with 20 points, while DJ Green posted an efficient 14 points, shooting 6-9 from the field and 2-3 from behind the arc.

Next on the agenda, the Knights will travel to face Brevard College on Saturday, February 3rd. In their last encounter on January 6th, the Knights emerged victorious with a score of 79-73.
