Greensboro, NC - In a tightly contested match, the Southern Virginia men's basketball team suffered a narrow defeat to Greensboro College's Pride, ending with a final score of 67-69.
The Knights demonstrated early dominance, establishing a commanding 17-6 lead in the first eight minutes of play, led by Koa Baker's nine points. A burst of offense ensued, highlighted by Tyler Kartchner's consecutive layups, culminating in a substantial 20-point lead following a Collin Griffith 3-pointer. However, Greensboro rallied back, narrowing the halftime score to 37-21 in favor of the Knights.
Maintaining their intensity, the Knights exhibited strong ball movement in the second half, securing a 16-point lead off a DJ Green jumper with 12 minutes left in the game. Despite their efforts, Southern Virginia encountered challenges containing Greensboro's inside game, allowing the Pride to level the score at 61-61 with 4 minutes remaining.
Although the Knights momentarily matched the Pride's lead with a Koa Baker three-pointer and a Malakai Olson layup, the game concluded with Southern Virginia narrowly falling short, resulting in a 67-69 loss.
Looking ahead, Southern Virginia will return home for a matchup against William Peace University on Friday, January 12th at 7:30 PM, followed by a game against Pfeiffer University on Saturday, January 13th at 4:00 PM.
