Southern Virginia University Field Hockey Fall In Close Battle Against Sweet Briar

Buena Vista, Va. – The Southern Virginia University field hockey team fought hard but ultimately fell 1-3 against Sweet Briar College in a challenging home matchup.

The Knights came out strong, taking an early lead in the first quarter when a well-placed penalty corner by Kareena Olson set up Morgan Smith, who found the back of the net to put Southern Virginia up 1-0.

However, Sweet Briar responded quickly, equalizing the score just three minutes later. The Vixens intensified their offense in the second quarter, dominating possession and capitalizing with two more goals that put the Knights on the defensive and down 1-3 by halftime.

Southern Virginia regrouped in the second half, putting together a resilient defensive effort and creating a few offensive chances, but they were unable to break through the Vixens' back line. Goalie Paola Nunez recorded several key saves to keep the Knights in contention, but the early goals proved too much to overcome.

The Knights look to bounce back in their next game as they continue conference play, aiming to close out the season strong with a match against Cedar Crest October 31st at 5:00PM and wrap up the season on the road at Eastern Mennonite on November 6th.
