Knights Field Hockey Fights Hard but Falls to Cedar Crest

Allentown, Pa. – The Southern Virginia University field hockey team battled but ultimately fell 0-4 to Cedar Crest College in a tough road matchup.

The Knights faced pressure from the start as the Falcons registered five shots in the first quarter. Goalie Paola Nunez stood firm, making three crucial saves to keep the game scoreless heading into the second quarter.

Southern Virginia found momentum in the second quarter, with a penalty corner by Rachel Grange leading to a shot by Morgan Smith that was narrowly saved by the Falcons' goalie. However, Cedar Crest capitalized on a fast break, taking a 1-0 lead.

After halftime, the Knights came out with renewed energy, creating early opportunities with two penalty corners and three shots in the first eight minutes. Despite the strong push, Southern Virginia couldn't find the back of the net, and Cedar Crest extended their lead to 2-0.

The Knights continued to fight, with Morgan Smith and Kareena Olson both taking shots, but Cedar Crest's goalie Shelby Heater stopped each attempt. The Falcons added two more goals in the fourth quarter, ending the game 0-4.

Southern Virginia led in saves, 10-6, and penalty corners, 4-3, but were unable to convert their chances into goals.

The Knights will conclude their season on the road at Eastern Mennonite University on Tuesday, November 5, at 6:00 PM, looking to end the season on a strong note.
