Murray's First Half Tally Vaults the Knights Past Conference Rival

Fayetteville, NC - Looking to keep their undefeated conference record intact, the Southern Virginia University women's soccer team traveled to Methodist for a Saturday morning showdown between the last two USA South Tournament champions. The Knights prevailed in the end with a 1-0 victory, keeping their undefeated streak alive and remaining on top of the conference standings.

Southern Virginia held the early advantage in shots, and soon enough, their persistence paid off when Matia Murray found the back of the net after receiving a pass from Abbie Klusman. The goal proved crucial as the match quickly turned into a defensive standoff. Head Coach Rob Dahl continued to take advantage of his deep roster and deployed fresh troops onto the field with just over fifteen minutes remaining in the first half. Methodist launched a couple of shots toward the Knight's cage, but they each went wide, and the score remained 1-0 at the midway point.

The second half was also a hard-fought defensive battle, with both teams drawing plenty of fouls but unable to convert in the attacking zone. Courtney Montes and Lia Savage had shots on goal in the second frame but were both turned away. By the end of the match, the Knights' defenders were the overpowering force. They allowed Methodist only one corner and held them without a shot on goal to help Chloe Miller preserve the clean sheet. Southern Virginia improved its conference record to 4-0-1, putting themselves in a good position as they try to clinch another regular season crown and the right to host the USA South Tournament in November.

The Knights will now prepare for two more conference opponents next week. They'll travel to Greensboro to face the Pride on Wednesday, October 16th, at 5:00 PM for their next match.
