Buena Vista, Va. – The Southern Virginia University field hockey team fell 0-7 to Meredith College in their Senior Night matchup.
Before the game, the Knights honored their four seniors—Sidney White, Karenna Olson, Richelle Seawright, and Rachel Grange—who have played pivotal roles in the program.
The Knights put up a strong fight from the start, with Morgan Smith firing an early shot just wide. However, the Angels responded with a counterattack, scoring in the 11th minute.
Southern Virginia's defense held firm for the rest of the first quarter, with Olson taking another shot, this time saved by the goalie. In the second quarter, Meredith seized momentum, earning three consecutive penalty corners and scoring three quick goals to lead 4-0 at halftime.
The Knights returned with renewed energy in the second half, earning a penalty corner and seeing another shot from Smith saved. However, the Angels struck again late in the third quarter, netting two more goals and extending their lead to 7-0.
Despite the deficit, the Knights continued to push on offense with attempts from Olson and Smith, followed by another penalty corner, but they were unable to find the back of the net before the final whistle.
Southern Virginia now turns their attention to their next match, as they travel to Cedar Crest College in Allentown, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday, October 23rd, with a 5:00 PM start time.
