Raleigh, NC - After an impressive defensive performance by their opponent, the Southern Virginia University men's soccer team had their win streak snapped by William Peace, losing by a score of 0-1.
Despite two early corners and a couple of shots towards the William Peace cage in the opening minutes, the Knights were on the receiving end of a shooting gallery during the first half. In the 23rd minute, William Peace's pressure paid off when they found the back of the net to claim the lead. Goalkeeper, Dallin Chappell, was on his toes for much of the half, making several quality saves. At the end of the first forty-five, William Peace's lead was still intact, but still had to hold off a hungry Knights offense for another half.
In the second, Southern Virginia was relentless and wouldn't be denied without a battle. They threw shot after shot towards the opposing goal, many of them just missing wide. Their best chance of the afternoon came off the foot of the reigning USA South attacker of the week, Benjamin Simister. Shortly after a yellow card was issued towards William Peace, Simister struck the post in the 68th minute. He led the team with four shots in the match, followed by Landon Stock who had three. In the end, it wasn't to be, and the Knights suffered a frustrating loss in conference play.
Despite the result, the team looks to shake off the loss and put together wins in the final two games of the regular season. The next one will be during homecoming weekend at Southern Virginia University this weekend. The Knights will host Pfeiffer on Friday, October 25th, at 3:00 PM.
