Salem, Va. – The Southern Virginia University field hockey team traveled to Roanoke College, falling 1-8 in a challenging matchup.
The Maroons applied early pressure, scoring in the first minute and adding two more goals to close out the first quarter before the Knights began finding their rhythm in the second quarter.
Southern Virginia created opportunities, including a penalty corner taken by Karenna Olsen and a shot by Morgan Smith that was saved by the Roanoke goalkeeper. The Knights got on the board with a penalty stroke goal by Ashley Torgeson, marking her first goal of the season.
However, Roanoke regained momentum in the second half, scoring five goals in the third quarter to pull away and secure the 8-1 victory.
The Knights now have a break until October 12th, when they travel to face Meredith College. Southern Virginia is 3-3 all-time against Meredith and looks forward to the upcoming matchup.
