CARY, NC – The Southern Virginia University women's soccer team delivered a commanding 5-0 win over William Peace, fueled by a dominant first-half performance.
The Knights took control early and never looked back, with Emmy Giles scoring the opening goal just 5:16 into the match, assisted by Matia Murray.
Southern Virginia's relentless attack continued as Lauren Fowler doubled the lead at 24:36, with an assist from Maybel Harris. Keeping up the pressure, Abbie Klusman added another goal at 27:03, again assisted by Harris, pushing the score to 3-0.
The Knights maintained their intensity, with Maybel Harris scoring her own goal at 31:48, set up by Ella Thomas. Lia Savage capped off the first half in the 34th minute, scoring the fifth goal of the match, assisted by Hailey Gadd.
Southern Virginia dominated throughout the game, outshooting the Pacers 19-3 and earning a 2-0 advantage in corner kicks. Despite the Knights' control, the William Peace goalkeeper made eight second-half saves, preventing Southern Virginia from adding to their lead.
The Knights now face a tough challenge as they prepare to take on #3 Christopher Newport University, who are 9-0-1 this season. Southern Virginia aims for their first-ever win against the Captains, after falling 3-0 in their 2023 matchup.
