Southern Virginia Football Toppled by Hawks on Senior Day

Buena Vista, VA - Despite the emotional high of honoring several seniors before their regular season finale at Knights Stadium, the Southern Virginia University football team was plagued by a slow start and defeated by conference foe Huntingdon College.

After several weeks of noticeable offensive progress, the Knights were unable to become much of a threat against a stingy Huntingdon defense. In tandem with their strong defense, Huntington's talented and deep ground attack broke the game open in the first quarter. They scored two rushing touchdowns on consecutive drives to quiet the home crowd.

After two straight one-score games, Southern Virginia could not draw closer after the opening quarter and struggled to regain momentum. In the second half, a sack by Isaiah Thomas and a forced fumble from Amarie Gilchrist gave the Knights a much-needed boost. Isaiah Maxey also came in at quarterback in the fourth quarter, completing all four of his pass attempts for 26 yards.

Looking ahead, the Knights will look to regain the form they had found in their two previous matchups when they face LaGrange in their final game of the season. Southern Virginia has won their last two matchups against LaGrange, including a 52-26 victory in September of last year.

The game will take place on Saturday, November 16th, in LaGrange, Georgia, with kickoff at 1:00 PM. For the most up-to-date information and details on the team, visit knightathletics.com and follow @knight_ftbl on Instagram.
