Buena Vista, VA - After splitting their first four games in the young season, the Southern Virginia University women's basketball team returned to the win column with a commanding victory over conference foe Methodist, 72-59.
The first half was a Southern Virginia defensive clinic. The Knights recorded seven steals, won the rebounding battle, and used their speed to outscore their opponents 20-6 on the fast break. A strong second quarter was the difference maker in providing the Knights with a comfortable lead of 39-17 at halftime.
Abigail Snyder picked right up where she left off when she scored a season-high 18 points in her last outing by nearly recording a double-double by the end of the half. Her 13 points were a game-high at that point.
Methodist pushed back in the third quarter to shrink their deficit, but the Knights' top scorers were kicking on all cylinders the rest of the game. Ruth Kempler and Aysia Foster once again formed a formidable duo in the frontcourt, both reaching double figures in points and combining for a couple of blocks in the fourth quarter during important possessions.
Abigail Snyder continued to roll in later stages, finishing with 22 points and a career-high of 12 rebounds to complete her second double-double in as many games. Maria Savvun finished with a game-high of eight assists, while Hailey Paige was the fourth Knight in double figures for scoring to close out another victory for Southern Virginia and their first win against USA South competition.
The Knights will quickly shift their focus to their game tomorrow, November 23rd, against Meredith. It will be the second game of a four-game homestand that stretches beyond the Thanksgiving break.
