Buena Vista, VA – The Southern Virginia University Men's volleyball (10-0, 2-0) sweeps Eastern Mennonite University (7-5, 0-1) in a thrilling game with lots of attacks at the net and strong defense in the back row by both teams.
Head Coach, Tom Peterson, with the assistance of his coaching staff successfully led the Knights to their 30th continuous set win. Coach Peterson reached his 500th career win a few weeks prior to tonight's match, but he continues to impress by not dropping a set in 10 games.
While both teams could have been more aggressive at the service line, Maxym Sutton went on a small service run in the first set to give Southern Virginia the lead 6-3. Along with Justin Madsen's 12 digs of the game, Kristo Bianchin and Christian Sheaffer shut the Royals down.
The Knights did not let up in the second set, winning 25-12. With 22 attempts and 7 kills by Southern Virginia, some impressive rallies got the crowd cheering, which carried on to the third set.
Southern Virginia and the Royals each had a number of attempts in the third set, but ultimately it came down to which team was able to put up a strong block and have more kills. The Knights had 13 kills in the third set allowing them to win the set 25-20.
Southern Virginia will return to the Knight Arena on Friday, February 16 at 7pm to play Randolph-Macon.
