Southern Virginia University Men’s Volleyball Provides Exciting Show Against Randolph-Macon College

Buena Vista, VA – Southern Virginia Men's Volleyball (11-0,3-0) took on Randolph-Macon College (5-6,1-1) with the support of their home crowd behind them. The Barn was loud and on their feet enjoying the show that both teams provided.

Southern Virginia started by receiving the ball, allowing Justin Madsen to set the tone of the game with a perfect pass. After the Knights went back and forth with the Yellow Jackets, Kristo Bianchin got two big swings to tie the score 6-6. Jeremy Brown followed Madsen's lead providing Tyler Sheafer with a perfect pass allowing a perfect set to go to Sam Candland who executed one of many impressive swings of the night. With stellar defense and aggressive swings from the front row and back row, Southern Virginia took set one 25-19.

A thrilling rally started set two, picking up right where set one left off. The Knights were able to hold a lead against Randolph-Macon by taking strong swings, but the number of missed serves allowed the Yellow Jackets to tag along the whole set. The crowd was able to look past the missed serves and focused on the electricity that came from the swings taken by Southern Virginia. With the crowd behind them, the Knights won set two 25-20.

Set three proved to be a block party provided by Southern Virginia. Tyler Sheafer went on a service run supported by the firm block the front row put up. The Knights used their momentum and the energy from the crowd to take the lead during the third set. Massive back to back swings from Christian Sheafer, Candland, and Bianchin kept the lead as the set went on. Towards the end of the match, Jayton Hall and Quin Shumway made an appearance and continued to hold the brick wall example of Sheafer and Bianchin. Southern Virginia won set three 25-17.

The Knights will travel to Harrisonburg, VA and play Messiah University on Friday, February 23 and 6pm.
