Box Score 3 Harrisonburg, VA – Southern Virginia Men's Volleyball (14-0, 3-0) loaded up the vans and traveled to Harrisonburg, VA to play Messiah College (8-6, 1-0), Bethany College (0-15, 0-0), and Eastern Mennonite University (9-7, 0-2), coming away with a perfect 3-0 record on the weekend.
Southern Virginia had a total of 78 attempts against the Falcons with only 13 attacking errors the whole game. The Knights were able to get good passes in both serve receive and defense allowing Tyler Sheaffer to have 32 assists during the three set match. Southern Virginia dominated at the service line again having a total of seven aces as a team, Jaren Brown having three of the seven. The Knights swept Messiah on Friday night 3-0.
Following the big win Friday night, Southern Virginia returned back to the campus of Eastern Mennonite University on Saturday to play the inaugural men's volleyball team from Bethany College. Libero Justin Madsen got to play outside and led the Knights in kills, having seven during the match. Maxym Sutton led The Knights in assists and aces with 14 and five. Southern Virginia swept the Bison 3-0.
After acquiring two sweeps, the Knights had full momentum going into their third game of the weekend against Eastern Mennonite University. Southern Virginia came out of the gate strong in the first set against the Royals. The Knights won the first set 25-20 with Quin Shumway getting the final kill in set one. Set two was more of a ladder climb for both teams, with no big leads by either team. Southern Virginia was able to take a two point lead to win the set 25-13 with a kill by Jayton Hall. Eastern Mennonite continued to stay neck in neck with the Knights through the third set, but with big attacks by Christian Sheaffer and Jayton Hall and a service error from Eastern Mennonite, Southern Virginia was able to win set three (25-20).
The Knights look forward to another fun week of volleyball as they travel to Rochester, NY to play four matches. The first match will be on Thursday, February 29 at 7pm.
