Southern Virginia Women's Basketball Fall at Methodist University, 38-57, to Snap Twelve-Game Winning Streak

Fayetteville, NC - Southern Virginia women's basketball team encountered a tough challenge, falling 38-57 in conference play against Methodist University at the Riddle Center Gymnasium. While this loss halted their impressive twelve-game winning streak, the Knights maintain a formidable season record of 16-5, still boasting a commendable 14-1 standing in conference play.

Despite a valiant effort, the Knights faced early adversity, briefly taking the lead just four seconds into the game. However, they encountered difficulties finding their offensive rhythm, resulting in their lowest-scoring quarter of the season. Despite this setback, the Knights showcased resilience, mounting a spirited effort in the second quarter, outscoring Methodist 15-8. Camilla Norton's clutch three-pointers injected a surge of energy, narrowing the halftime deficit to a mere three points.

While the Knights displayed flashes of brilliance, they faced challenges sustaining momentum after halftime, with Methodist extending their lead. Despite a spirited defensive effort in the final quarter, the Knights were unable to overcome their offensive struggles.

Despite the outcome, the Knights' showcased their prowess on the boards, securing a rebounding advantage of 39-31. However, turnovers proved to be a decisive factor, with Southern Virginia committing 30 compared to Methodist's 11. Methodist capitalized on these errors, scoring 30 of their 57 points off turnovers, including 18 from fastbreak opportunities.

Southern Virginia maintains their position atop the conference with a 14-1 record, but Methodist University is hot on their heels at 13-1. The Knights now turn their focus to a home matchup against Salem College on Tuesday, February 6th, with tip-off scheduled for 4:00 PM.
