Buena Vista, VA - The Southern Virginia women's basketball team continued their impressive season, improving to 17-5 overall and maintaining a dominant 15-1 record in the USA South conference with a commanding victory over the Spirits of Salem College.
Right from the opening tip-off, the Knights asserted their dominance, with Aysia Foster igniting the offense by scoring the first six points of the game. Led by Foster's early surge, the Knights surged ahead and never relinquished their lead, closing the first quarter with a commanding 25-7 advantage.
While the second quarter saw a brief resurgence from the Spirits, with six consecutive points, the Knights quickly regained control. Taylor Miyasaki, Emma Camden, and Alyssa Weiland orchestrated a flurry of scoring in the final five minutes of the quarter, widening the gap to a comfortable 40-21 lead at halftime.
The Knights unleashed a relentless offensive onslaught in the second half, pouring in an impressive 54 points to solidify their dominance. However, it was the fourth quarter where they truly showcased their prowess, outscoring Salem by an astonishing 30-3 margin.
Southern Virginia delivered a standout performance, setting season-high marks in rebounds, steals, and blocked shots with 59, 18, and eight respectively. Emma Camden led the scoring charge with 18 points, shooting an impressive 7-9 from the field, while Maria Savvun contributed 13 points.
Camilla Norton made her presence felt on both ends of the court, tallying four steals and four assists throughout the game.
As they prepare to wrap up the regular season, the Knights are set to host their final home game on Saturday, February 10th, with tip-off scheduled for 3:00 PM. With their dominant display against Salem College, the Knights are poised to carry their momentum into the upcoming postseason.
