Brevard, N.C. - The Southern Virginia University Knights Softball team took on the Brevard College Tornados in a double-header on Saturday afternoon. The Knights took both games from the Tornados, winning 10-2 and 3-1.
Â
The Knights staged a siege on the Tornados in game one.
Chloe Nelson opened the scoring for the Knights in the second inning by hitting a double down the left line to bring
Arianna Hall home, tying the game 1-1.
Â
In the second inning
Dykell Jones took a short trip around the bases, hitting a bomb to center field. By the time the ball came to the ground Jones had made it around second and, after bobbling the ball, Jones had made it back home, concluding her in-the-park home run. However, the third inning wasn't over, the Knights scored two more runs fueled by a
Sophia Badell double and a
Mattison Christensen sacrifice fly to close the inning at 4-1.
Â
Southern Virginia put three more on the board in the fourth inning.
Chloe Persinger tallied two RBIs in one at-bat with a blast up the middle, bringing
Katie Claytor and Jones to make the score 7-2.
Â
In the top of the fifth, after a throwing error from the pitcher,
Malia Davis reached home, making the score 8-2. Then Claytor knocked in two of her teammates to record two RBIs. Those runs decided the game, ending the game in five innings with a score of 10-2.
Arianna Hall slung her way to a pitching win, with one earned run and one strikeout.
Â
The Knights took the energy of their five inning win, and took it to game two. The game was a defensive battle, with the game being decided in late innings. After being tied after the end of the sixth inning 1-1. Nelson doubled to left field for two RBIs and a game winning score of 3-1.
Â
The Knights will continue their regular season play at home against Mid-Atlantic Christian on April 4.
