Southern Virginia Men's Golf Shows Promise at Pfeiffer Invitational

Ocean Isle Beach, NC – The Southern Virginia University men's golf team showcased their talents at the Pfeiffer Invitational, with the A team securing the fourth position out of 17 competing teams after the first day. The tournament, set against the backdrop of a challenging 7,011-yard, par-72 course in Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina, provided the perfect stage for the Knights to display their skills.

Leading the way for the Knights' A team, Michael McCaffrey finished the day tied for fifth with a commendable score of 75. Close on his heels was Brogan Bennett, who carded a 76 to finish tied for eighth. Luke Wilson contributed a 79 to tie for 24th, while Nick Johnson and Robbie Nielsen rounded out the team scores with an 82 and 88, respectively, placing them tied for 44th and 70th.

The B team, although currently in the last place, showcased a wealth of emerging talent that promises much for the future of Southern Virginia men's golf. Ethan Campbell, mirroring Johnson's effort, also scored an 82 to tie for 44th. Jameson Harper was not far behind with an 84, tying for 53rd. Both Coleman Oettli and David Jensen carded 90s to tie for 75th, and Mason Shlensker recorded a 92, tying him for 83rd. Playing as an individual, Alex Cox matched Harper's score with an 84, also tying for 53rd.

Despite some challenges on the course, the Knights' performance has left them well within reach of the leaders, a sentiment echoed by Coach Blair Garner. "The men left some strokes out but were within striking distance of the leaders," Garner remarked, highlighting the optimism within the camp as they look to capitalize on their strong positions in the tournament's concluding day.

The Southern Virginia men's golf team has demonstrated both depth and potential through their performances. As they head into the second day of the Pfeiffer Invitational, the Knights are focused on tightening their game to climb the leaderboard and challenge for top honors.

The final day of the tournament promises to be a thrilling affair, with Southern Virginia eager to make their mark on their first event of the semester.
