Baisden's Last-Minute Goal Propels Southern Virginia Women's Lacrosse to Nail-Biting Double Overtime Win

BUENA VISTA, VA. — In a rain-soaked thriller, the Southern Virginia University women's lacrosse team edged out Wittenberg College with a 10-9 victory in double overtime on Saturday. Despite a late surge from the Tigers, the Knights stood firm to secure a hard-earned win.

The game kicked off with Southern Virginia taking a quick lead, thanks to Piper Searle and Kiah Baisden, who netted back-to-back goals within 15 seconds. The momentum continued into the second quarter, with Searle completing an early hat trick by adding two more goals. The Tigers fought back with two goals, narrowing the gap to 4-3. However, the Knights extended their lead in the last 30 seconds before halftime, with Baisden and then Searle scoring, making it 6-3 at the break.

Emerging from halftime, Southern Virginia widened their lead with goals from Searle and Kenzie Poulsen, even while a player down. Wittenberg clawed back into the game, scoring six goals, with only Searle interrupting their comeback with her sixth goal of the match. The Tigers managed to tie the game in the last minute, pushing it into overtime. The Knights' defense shone in overtime, preventing Wittenberg from taking any shots, which set the stage for Baisden to net the winning goal.

Southern Virginia dominated in shots, 41-19, and in draw controls, 18-3, showcasing their control of the game despite the close score. Baisden and Addison England were instrumental in draw controls, securing five and four, respectively. Searle led the scoring effort with six goals, while Baisden contributed three goals and two assists.

This victory brings the Knights' record to 2-1. They look forward to continuing their home stand against Randolph-Macon.
