Southern Virginia Baseball Wins Another Series Led By Offensive Explosions From Martinez and Geertsen

Buena Vista, VA - Southern Virginia had an impressive showing in a home matchup against the formidable Greensboro College, securing victories in two out of three games. These wins propelled the Knights to fourth place in the conference standings and improved their season record to 13-17.

In the first game, Zack Geertsen took the mound and led the Knights to a dominant 10-4 victory, pitching a shutout inning and contributing to the offensive onslaught. Ty Martinez showcased his power with two home runs and 3 RBIs, while Nick Daynes, Mitch Smith, and Ryan Farris each recorded multiple hits.

Chase Smith sealed the win with his third save of the year, demonstrating his growth on the mound.

Despite falling behind early in the second game, the Knights staged a spirited rally in the 5th and 6th innings, led by Stockton Hall, Seth Lloyd, and Geertsen. Martinez, Geertsen, and Smith continued their strong performances at the plate, but the Knights ultimately fell short in their comeback bid.

However, in the final game of the series, the Knights' offense exploded with a 9-run barrage in the first two innings, highlighted by Marcelino Leonardo Jr.'s 3-RBI home run. Geertsen's grand slam further solidified the Knights' lead, securing a decisive 16-7 victory. Nick Daynes also made a remarkable defensive play, robbing Greensboro of a potential home run.

With six Knights recording multi-hit games, including Geertsen's impressive 3-for-4 performance with seven RBIs, and strong pitching performances from Harrison Moore and Sinjun Johnson, Southern Virginia showcased their depth and resilience.

Next up, Southern Virginia will face Mary Washington in their last non-conference match in Fredericksburg, VA on Tuesday, April 23rd at 3:00 PM.
