Southern Virginia Baseball Falls In Non-Conference Double Header

Fredericksburg, VA - The Southern Virginia baseball team faced a tough challenge in non-conference action against the Eagles of Mary Washington, dropping both seven-inning games. The Eagles managed to stifle the Knights' potent offense, resulting in a 1-11 loss in the first game and a 4-8 defeat in the second.

In the first game, the Knights struggled at the plate, mustering only two hits throughout the day. Zack Geertsen's RBI single to right field in the third inning accounted for the team's lone run.

However, Southern Virginia took an early lead in the second game. Ty Martinez kicked off the action with a single to right, followed by a walk to Stockton Hall, putting runners in scoring position for Mitch Smith. Smith reached on an error, allowing Martinez to score, followed by a double from Marcelino Leonardo Jr. that drove in two more runs, giving the Knights a 3-0 advantage.

Mary Washington responded by tallying three runs of their own in the bottom of the inning and widening the gap with four more runs in the fourth.

Southern Virginia managed to score again in the fifth when Seth Lloyd drew a walk, stole second, and later scored on an error after Martinez also walked. However, the game concluded with an 8-4 scoreline in favor of Mary Washington.

Looking ahead, the Knights aim to conclude the regular season with a three-game series on the road against Methodist University. Additionally, there's a possibility of facing William Peace on Monday if a conference tiebreaker is necessary for the conference playoffs.
