Southern Virginia Baseball Wraps Up Regular Season With Series Loss Against Monarchs

Fayetteville, N.C. - The Southern Virginia baseball team concluded their final regular season series with three consecutive losses to Methodist University, with scores of 2-7, 11-16, and 5-11.

The Knights' starting pitching faced early challenges in each game, as Methodist's hitting allowed them to establish leads.

In the opening game, Methodist surged ahead with a 4-run inning in the fourth, ultimately securing a 7-2 victory. Although Nick Daynes and Mitch Smith contributed RBIs, the Knights struggled to find offensive momentum, tallying only five hits. Sinjun Johnson provided relief, pitching three innings while conceding just one run, but the Monarchs maintained control to clinch the win.

Game two saw a strong offensive start from the Knights, with a four-run inning in the first. However, Methodist responded with six runs over the next two innings. Despite Southern Virginia's efforts to tie the game, highlighted by a sac-fly from Marcelino Leonardo Jr. and an RBI groundout by Benji Horsley, Methodist widened the gap with a combined 10 runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Despite a late surge from the Knights, they fell short, losing 11-16.

In the final game, despite Methodist's early lead, the Knights fought back, highlighted by a two-run homerun from Ty Martinez. However, Methodist's consistent hitting proved challenging, as they secured an 11-5 victory in eight innings.

Throughout the series, standout performances included a notable relief appearance from Jeffrey Hill, alongside strong contributions from Stockton Hall, Ty Martinez, and Mitch Smith.

Looking ahead, the Knights aim to determine their postseason fate as they face William Peace University in their final regular season game on Monday at 6:00 PM. A win could potentially secure fifth for sixth in the conference.
