Women's Tennis Downed By Shenandoah In Season Opener

WINCHESTER, Va. — Southern Virginia women's tennis falls to Shenandoah University 3-4 after a hard-fought match.

The Knights trailed after the doubles matches, 2-1. However, Remly Fry and Lia Savage put up a strong fight and secured a 6-4 win. According to Division III rules, Shenandoah earned one point after winning the majority of the doubles matches.

Moving into singles, the Knights continued to battle hard, ultimately splitting the matches evenly with the Hornets.

At #1 singles, Paula Snelson led the charge for the Knights, dominating her match with a 6-2, 6-2 win. Shortly after, junior Sadie Walton secured a 6-4, 6-3 victory at #6 singles, putting the Knights in a strong position.

Lydia Delich fell 1-6, 2-6, bringing the score to a 2-2 tie as the teams awaited the results of the remaining singles matches.

Despite valiant efforts from both Lia Savage and Remly Fry, the Knights came up just short in two tough three-set battles. Savage fell 7-5, 5-7, 3-6, and Fry lost 7-6, 5-7, 5-7, allowing Shenandoah to clinch the match and go up 4-2.

To finish on a high note, Jillian Arnold delivered an outstanding comeback, winning her match 4-6, 6-2, 6-1. The final score was 4-3 in favor of the Shenandoah Hornets.

The Knights are eager for redemption and will return to the court on Monday, September 16th, for a home match.
