Women's Soccer Secure First Win with Dominant 3-0 Victory Over Eastern Mennonite

HARRISONBURG, VA – The Southern Virginia University women's soccer team earned their first win of the season in commanding fashion, defeating Eastern Mennonite University 3-0 in a well-rounded performance.

From the opening whistle, the Knights took control, applying consistent pressure and firing 13 shots in the first half. Despite this relentless attack, the Royals held strong, with their goalkeeper making three crucial saves to keep the game scoreless at halftime.

The Knights' persistence paid off early in the second half when Lucy Skidmore delivered a perfectly placed pass to Maybel Harris at the top of the penalty arc. Harris wasted no time, launching a powerful shot that soared over the goalkeeper's head, giving Southern Virginia a 1-0 lead just moments after the break.

The Knights quickly doubled their advantage when Harris struck again, this time converting a penalty kick to secure her second goal of the match. With Southern Virginia's offense firing on all cylinders, the team continued to dominate possession and create scoring opportunities.

Bailey Ricker sealed the victory in the 66th minute with a spectacular effort, sending a shot that bounced off the crossbar and into the net, making it 3-0. The Knights' constant pressure and precise passing were finally rewarded as they took full control of the game.

Maybel Harris' two-goal performance marked her as the Knights' leading scorer, while standout midfield play from Harris, Sydney Bastian, Natalie Blaser, and Hailey Gadd helped drive Southern Virginia to victory.

The Knights now look ahead to their final road game of the season at Ferrum on Wednesday, September 18th, before returning home for their conference opener against NC Wesleyan on Saturday, September 21st.
