ASHLAND, VA – The Southern Virginia University men's tennis team delivered a commanding 7-0 win over Randolph-Macon, securing their first victory of the season with a clean sweep in both singles and doubles play.
The Knights set the tone early in doubles action. In collegiate tennis, the doubles matches consist of three pairs, with each match decided by a single set. The team that wins two out of three doubles matches earns one point. The #1 doubles pair of Nate Walton and Trent McBride played with force, winning their match 6-0. Jared Pitcher and Chase Rishel followed suit at #2 doubles with a 6-1 victory. To wrap up the doubles sweep, Jacob Feldman and Traejen Kingston secured a solid 6-3 win at #3 doubles, earning Southern Virginia the doubles point.
In singles, each match consists of two sets, and each victory earns the team a point. Southern Virginia maintained their momentum with Jared Pitcher cruising to a quick win at #1 singles, defeating his opponent 6-1, 6-1. Nate Walton continued the team's success at #2 singles, securing a 6-1, 6-3 victory.
At #3 singles, Trent McBride showcased his skills with a 6-4, 6-0 win, while Chase Rishel, at #4 singles, earned a convincing 6-2, 6-2 victory.
Traejen Kingston fought through a tight first set at #5 singles, ultimately triumphing 7-5, 6-0. Jacob Feldman completed the sweep at #6 singles with a 6-0, 6-2 win.
The Knights' victory marks a strong start to their season as they now look ahead to their next home match on Monday, September 23rd, at 3:00 p.m.
