BUENA VISTA, VA – The Southern Virginia University field hockey team faced a tough challenge Friday night, falling 0-9 to the Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets.
The Yellow Jackets took control early, scoring their first goal in the 4th minute and maintaining pressure throughout the game, finishing with 50 shots and earning eight penalty corners.
Freshman goalkeeper Morgan Smith was a standout for the Knights, recording 19 saves and making crucial stops against Randolph-Macon's relentless offense.
Despite conceding six goals in the first quarter, Southern Virginia's defense found a second wind, allowing only three more goals over the remaining three quarters.
The Knights will now hit the road for a five-game trip, starting with a matchup against Sweet Briar on Tuesday, September 24th.
