Sweet Briar, VA – The Southern Virginia University field hockey team fell 0-6 against the Vixens of Sweet Briar College.
The Knights put up a valiant effort, with goalkeeper Paola Nunez making seven saves in the first quarter, keeping the game scoreless heading into the second quarter.
Southern Virginia continued to fight as Morgan Smith and Karenna Olson each had attempts on goal in the second quarter, forcing a pair of saves from the Vixens' goalkeeper.
Sweet Briar took control in the third quarter, scoring four goals to extend their lead to six. However, the Knights displayed solid defense in the fourth quarter, holding the Vixens scoreless, though they eventually fell 0-6.
Despite the loss, Southern Virginia tallied an impressive 21 saves overall. Morgan Smith stepped into goal after an injury impacted the team, making eight saves on nine shots and allowing just one goal while the team was down in numbers.
The Knights remain on the road as they travel to face Lancaster Bible on Saturday, September 28th, at 5:00 PM.
