LANCASTER, PA – The Southern Virginia University field hockey team played a competitive match against Lancaster Bible College but ultimately fell 2-1 after a second-half surge by the Chargers.
The Knights came out strong, showcasing their tenacity from the opening whistle. Southern Virginia led the first quarter in shots 2-1 and dominated in penalty corners, earning a 2-0 advantage. Despite the early pressure, both teams entered the second quarter scoreless.
Lancaster Bible battled back in the second quarter, applying more pressure with a 4-2 advantage in both shots and penalty corners. The Chargers finally broke through in the 32nd minute, taking a 1-0 lead early in the second half.
Southern Virginia remained resilient, and in the 55th minute, Morgan Smith scored the Knights' first goal of the season to equalize the game. Smith's goal was a pivotal moment, sparking renewed energy for the Knights. However, Lancaster Bible quickly responded just three minutes later, netting the game-winning goal in the 58th minute to secure the 2-1 victory.
Despite the result, the Knights showed incredible fight throughout the match, keeping the game competitive from start to finish.
