Misenheimer, NC - The Southern Virginia University women's basketball team remained undefeated in the new year by dispatching another conference foe, Pfeiffer, by a score of 72-38.
Maria Savvun set the tone in the opening seconds by connecting on a three-pointer for the game's first bucket. Abigail Snyder followed suit just a minute later to open an early 6-0 advantage. While their shooting was noticeable, another strong defensive performance allowed the Knights to open up a double-digit advantage in the opening frame.
Southern Virginia recorded five steals in the second quarter and remained in control. Alyssa Weiland began to make her presence felt with six points in short order en route to a season-best game for her. Like the first quarter, the Knights held their opponents to single digits in scoring and led 32-13 at halftime.
The Knights were in cruise control the rest of the way and took full advantage of a deep rotation to retain their double-digit lead. Their highest scoring output came in the third quarter as the lead grew to 56-20. By the time the final buzzer sounded, 13 different Knights had found the scoresheet and collectively shot over 50% from the field.
Alyssa Weiland had a superb all-around performance, scoring 16 points, her second straight game in double figures, and grabbing three steals. With 35 points, the Knights bench nearly outscored the Falcons, showcasing the teams' depth. The win makes it nine in a row for the surging Knights, who remain undefeated in the USA South.
