Knights Settle For Tie With Monarchs

Fayetteville, N.C. - After capturing a win in their final non-conference outing on Wednesday, the Southern Virginia University men's soccer team secured another point in the USA South standings after a 1-1 tie with Methodist.

Following a five-save clean sheet earlier in the week, Southern Virginia keeper Troy Chamberlain looked sharp again, fending off several shots in the first half.

He ultimately backstopped the Knights to the first lead of the game when his attackers found the back of the net in the 41st minute.

After a steal just before midfield, Kenyon Grange found himself unmarked in the box and on the receiving end of a pass from Kohl Simmons. After an initial whiff, Grange sent a shot into the left side of the cage to give his team the lead just before half.

Methodist managed to regroup after the break and unloaded for 14 shots towards the Southern Virginia cage, forcing Troy Chamberlain to remain attentive in goal.

Ultimately, the Monarchs produced the tying goal which proved to be the final tally of the night for either team. Chamberlain made six saves in goal for the Knights to help secure the tie.

Looking Ahead

Southern Virginia's next chance to return to the win column will be on Wednesday, October 15th when they visit Greensboro College. The Knights are riding a three game unbeaten streak over the Pride. Kickoff is slated for 6:00 PM.
