FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - In a hard-fought contest between two of the best teams in the USA South, the Southern Virginia University women's volleyball team dropped a road matchup to Methodist, 3-1.
The Monarchs had the early jump on Southern Virginia, dominating the opening frame 25-13 to secure a 1-0 lead.
The second set also went to Methodist, albeit a much closer score of 25-20. In the third, the Knights were in danger of being swept, but rallied past their opponents thanks to six straight kills by Aubrey Packer. They secured a 25-22 victory to force a fourth set.
The teams went back and forth, with the Knights gaining a 12-11 lead after a kill by Anne Downs at the midway point. However, Methodist used a strong finish to send the defending conference champs home in four.
Aubrey Packer produced a season high of 22 kills, while Talia Quinn returned after an injury absence to post 27 assists, tying her season high.
Looking Ahead
The Knights will look to snap their two-game skid during a non-conference bout with Bridgewater on Tuesday, October 14th at Knight Arena. Start time is slated for 6:00 PM.
