BUENA VISTA, Va. - In another key conference bout, the Southern Virginia University men's soccer team was outlasted by William Peace at Knight Stadium by a score of 2-0.
A sense of urgency from the Knights was visible from the opening whistle, knowing that the matchup was key to securing a spot in the upcoming USA South Tournament.
Sustained pressure gave Southern Virginia a couple of corners in the opening few minutes, but they couldn't cash in.
In the 29th minute, the Pacers found a crack in the Knights defense to put one past Troy Chamberlain for a 1-0 lead. The score remained that way for the halftime break.
In the second half, Southern Virginia applied excellent pressure to the Pacers goal. The best Southern Virginia chance belonged to Benjamin Simister, who took a short pass from Porter Whitlock ten yards from the cage and rifled a shot off the keeper's hands.
Despite outshooting their opponents in the second, the Knights couldn't find an equalizer and dropped the game 2-0.
Simister, Jacob Cornejo, and Landon Stock each recorded three shots, while Troy Chamberlain made four saves in goal.
