Southern Virginia University Women’s Soccer Wraps Up Regular Season With Conference Win Over Mary Baldwin

Staunton, Va. – The Southern Virginia University women's soccer team closed out the regular season in dominant fashion with a 4–1 win over Mary Baldwin University on Wednesday afternoon.

The victory capped off a strong campaign for the Knights, who finished the regular season 10–6–1 overall and 8–1 in USA South Conference play, securing the No. 2 seed in the upcoming USA South Conference Tournament. The result also marks the program's fourth 10-win season in the past five years.

Southern Virginia wasted no time finding the back of the net as Xoie Warner opened the scoring early. Delin Peterson played a ball ahead to Courtney Montes, who sent a precise cross into the box that Warner redirected with her right foot to give the Knights a 1–0 lead.

Peterson doubled the advantage later in the half with a stunning long-range strike from outside the penalty area, curling her shot into the goal off an assist from McKenna Currey, sending Southern Virginia into halftime up 2–0.

The Knights controlled the first half, outshooting Mary Baldwin 9–0 and earning a 4–2 edge in corner kicks, though the Fighting Squirrels' goalkeeper made six saves to keep the margin close.

Just two minutes into the second half, Warner struck again—this time off a corner kick from Montes, heading the ball into the top of the net to make it 3–0. Peterson added her second goal of the match late in the game before Mary Baldwin scored in the final moments to bring the score to 4–1.

With the win, the Knights will host the first round of the USA South Conference Tournament on Saturday against the No. 7 seed. Match time will be announced soon.
