Blaser and Warner Goals Propel Southern Virginia University Women’s Soccer to Conference Semifinals

Buena Vista, Va. — The Southern Virginia University women's soccer team advanced to the USA South Conference Semifinals after a 2-0 victory over No. 7 seed Meredith College on a cold November night, behind goals from Natalie Blaser and Xoie Warner.

The Knights controlled the pace from the opening whistle, firing four early shots and earning three corner kicks within the first 10 minutes. Despite the cold conditions, Southern Virginia dominated possession and set the tone offensively, tallying 11 corner kicks and 16 shots in the first half. Meredith's goalkeeper, however, recorded four key saves to keep the game scoreless heading into the break.

The breakthrough came early in the second half when Blaser broke free after a well-placed through ball from Ashlee Kelsey. Blaser maneuvered around the diving keeper who charged out of the box and calmly slotted the ball into the open net to give the Knights the 1-0 advantage.

Southern Virginia continued to apply pressure throughout the half, adding seven more shots before sealing the win in the 87th minute. Kelsey once again provided the assist, crossing a ball into the box that Warner controlled with one touch before sending it low to the bottom right corner past the diving goalkeeper for the 2-0 final.

The Knights finished with a commanding 27-10 advantage in shots and 12-0 margin in corner kicks.

It was also a historic night for senior defender Hailey Gadd, who became the program's all-time leader in minutes played, surpassing Ella Thomas's previous record of 6,324 career minutes.

Southern Virginia now turns its attention to the USA South Semifinals, where the Knights will host No. 3 Greensboro College on Wednesday, November 5th, in a highly anticipated rematch. The Knights previously defeated the Pride 1-0 just weeks earlier.
