LEXINGTON, Va. - In a rematch of last year's competitive season opener, the Southern Virginia University women's basketball team squared off with Washington and Lee to kickoff their 2025-2026 season.
Unfortunately for the Knights, the evening ended in a double-digit loss to the sixth ranked team in the land.
The Generals swarming defense caused Southern Virginia trouble from the start as they faced a 19-8 deficit by the end of the first. Ruth Kempler had a promising start, securing the Knights first bucket of the season and grabbing a steal just seconds later.
Ultimately, the Knights were unable to bridge the gap to Washington and Lee the rest of the night. Aysia Foster led the team with 11 points on 5-8 shooting while also recording one steal and two blocks. Anna Kimball was the team's leading rebounder with seven.
Looking Ahead
The Knights look to regroup before their next opponent, Guilford, another ODAC foe. It'll also serve as Southern Virginia's home opener on Saturday, November 15th at 5:00 PM in Knight Arena.
