Greensboro, NC — The Southern Virginia University women's wrestling team earned a hard-fought 24–19 road victory over Greensboro College, winning key matchups down the stretch to clinch the dual.
The Knights opened the evening with an early boost as Katie Ramsey collected six team points via forfeit at 101. Greensboro answered immediately, evening the score 6–6 with a forfeit of their own at 110.
Southern Virginia regained the lead at 131 when Leigh-Anne Verburg picked up another forfeit, but Greensboro surged back with strong performances in the middle weights. Seani Casperson fell by an 11–0 tech fall at 138, and Gracie Blake battled deep into the match before dropping her bout by fall at 5:15, giving Greensboro a narrow advantage.
Andre Castro grabed some much needed points taking her matchup by fall 3:34 and the Knights needed a response and at 160, Alexis Kirkland dominated from the opening whistle, racking up points quickly before securing a 10–0 tech fall just 1:24 into the first period, swinging momentum firmly back toward Southern Virginia.
Moments later, Makenna Dolt stepped onto the mat at 207 and wasted no time, building an 8–0 lead and finishing the match with a first-period pin at 1:49, sealing the Knights' victory.
With those back-to-back wins, Southern Virginia closed out the night on top, earning a 24–19 triumph in their first head-to-head dual of the season.
The Knights now turn their attention to their next matchup, traveling to Randolph College on Friday, December 6th at 5:00 PM.
