Frostburg, Md. – The Southern Virginia University women's wrestling team closed out the regular season at the Bobcat Open, hosted by Frostburg State University, using the event that featured 50 teams as a final tune-up before postseason competition.
At 103 pounds, Katie Ramsay put together a resilient performance, finishing seventh and scoring 8.5 team points. After receiving a first-round bye, Ramsay rebounded from an early setback with a pin of Oriana Boling (Frostburg State) in the consolation bracket, then capped her day with a forfeit win in the seventh-place match.
At 124 pounds, Andrea Castro faced a tough bracket, falling by tech fall in both championship and consolation action, while gaining valuable experience against strong regional competition.
In the 131-pound class, senior Leigh-Anne Verburg battled through two hard-fought matches but was unable to advance after falling by pin in the consolation round.
Seani Casperson picked up a win at 138 pounds, opening her day with an 11–4 decision victory over Liana Samuel (McDaniel). Casperson later dropped a tech fall and a pin but finished the tournament with 1.0 team point.
The 145-pound bracket featured two Knights. Senior Eve Beckstead competed in her final regular-season event, while Gracie Blake turned in a strong showing, scoring 5.5 team points. Blake opened with a quick pin of Lena Black (McDaniel) and added another fall in consolation action before being stopped later in the bracket.
At 160 pounds, freshman Alexis Kirkland earned 2.0 team points, highlighted by a decision win over Haylie Briscoe (Delaware State). Kirkland faced stiff competition in the later rounds but continued to show growth against experienced opponents.
Freshman Dazi Thatcher continued to impress at 180 pounds, also scoring 5.5 team points. Thatcher opened with a lightning-fast pin of Rylie Alexander (Waynesburg) and followed with a tech fall in consolation action before exiting the tournament.
With the regular season now complete, the Knights turn their focus to postseason preparation as they travel to the NCAA Region III Regionals, set for February 20–21, looking to carry their momentum into the championship phase of the season.
