Washington, Pa. – The Southern Virginia University men's wrestling team continued their early-season slate at the Washington & Jefferson Invitational, turning in a strong team performance highlighted by several standout individual showings and a pair of top finishes.
At 125 lbs, Jaton Wellington led the Knights with a runner-up finish, earning a series of dominant wins before falling in the championship bout. Wellington opened the day with a 19-3 technical fall, followed by an 11-3 major decision, and a lightning-fast 19-second pin in the semifinals. He ultimately finished second place after a hard-fought championship loss by fall (2:49).
In the heavyweight division (285 lbs), Marc Richardson also earned a fourth-place finish. After receiving a first-round bye, Richardson scored a pin in 3:44 and followed with a 5-0 decision before dropping his semifinal (pin, 1:30) to secure a strong showing in his bracket.
Other notable performances included:
Porter Kinne (149 lbs) – Posted a strong 3-2 record, including back-to-back technical fall victories (15-0, 18-0) and a narrow 3-2 loss in his final match.
Harrison Hoopes (184 lbs) – Opened with a quick 41-second pin, added another fall in 2:11, and ended the day 2-2 with a competitive decision loss (11-2).
Tanner Giatras (174 lbs) – Recorded a major decision (19-6) and a 10-3 decision win before exiting after a late-round fall (6:32).
Maddox Heck (125 lbs) – Picked up a strong 17-9 decision victory in consolation action after an early-round setback.
Corbin Mecham (157 lbs) – Earned a 1:49 pin in his second bout after a close opening-round loss (7-3).
Wyatt Kinne (165 lbs) – Rebounded from an early loss with a 6-2 decision before falling in his final match.
Talon Whicker (133 lbs) – Went 2-2 on the day, highlighted by a pin in 3:42 in the consolation bracket.
Kyler North (157 lbs) – Opened with a 7:00 pin before falling in his final two bouts.
Tucker Wilkins (165 lbs) – Battled through a close 13-14 loss before falling by pin (1:15).
Carson Call (165 lbs) – Dropped two bouts by fall (2:41, 2:05).
Joseph Comaduron (133 lbs) – Fell by technical fall (20-2, 17-0).
Richie Kulessa (149 lbs) – Opened with a 10-9 decision win before dropping his final two matches.
Rave Morby (125 lbs) – Fell by pin (1:27) and major decision (16-7).
Zol Sukhee – Fell by fall (0:44) and technical fall (15-0).
The Knights now turn their focus to ODAC dual action, traveling to Roanoke College on Thursday, November 13, with competition set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
