Misenheimer, N.C. - Southern Virginia University Baseball took on Pfeiffer University in a two game matchup Saturday. The Knights dropped the last two games of their three-game series with the Falcons, losing 10-7 and 13-4.
Game two found the Knights striking first with a four-run rally powered by speed on the bags by Garrett Stauffer, who scored on a wild pitch to put the Knights up 1-0. With players on second and third, the Knights put on the pressure as Mason Jones knocked a single up the middle to record a team leading two RBIs and put Southern Virginia up by three. Jones made his way back home after Seth Lloyd cut a single between second and short to put the Knights up 4-0. The Falcons took little time to respond, doubling the Knights score to gain the 8-4 lead.Â
The Knights found themselves down 10-4 late in the game. They scored three more runs from the sixth to the ninth in an effort to respond but fell short. Robert Stempin smoked a single to left field for a run. Stauffer found another opportunity to show off his speed, scoring on another wild pitch. Finally, Benjamin Horsley grounded out into a double play in the ninth allowing Stockton Hall to close the Knights deficit to 10-7.
Southern Virginia fell quickly in game three, finding themselves down four runs after the first. The Knights attempted to respond to an early deficit with a Lloyd single to score one run in the third. Marcelino Leonardo Jr. launched a single up the middle in the sixth to bring the Knights down five runs, still down 7-2. A pair of singles from Stauffer and Leonardo Jr. in the eighth were all the Knights had left to close their deficit to 13-4.Â
The Knights will travel to Lexington, Va. for a single game matchup against Washington and Lee University on April 1.Â
