Rocky Mount, NC.- Southern Virginia University faced a tough road test against N.C. Wesleyan in a Saturday doubleheader, falling 4-0 in Game 1 and 9-1 in Game 2. Despite resilient efforts on the mound, SVU struggled to find offensive momentum against strong pitching performances from their conference rivals.
Game 1
In the first game, Malia Stauffer delivered a strong performance for the Knights atop the mound, allowing just one earned run over five innings. The Knights' defense held N.C. Wesleyan in check early, but a three-run sixth inning proved to be the difference. Offensively, SVU managed only two hits against Humphrey, who pitched a complete-game shutout for N.C. Wesleyan.
Game 2
The second game saw N.C. Wesleyan striking early, plating three runs in the first inning and adding three more in the third. ArianaPrymak took the mound for the Knights, but the Bishops' offense proved relentless, racking up 16 hits. The Knights' lone run came in the fourth when Katie Claytor doubled to bring in Neveah Woodhouse.
Despite the losses, SVU showed flashes of solid defense, turning multiple double plays and staying competitive on the mound. The Knights will look to regroup and bounce back in their next matchup April 1st, in a home doubleheader against Salem.Â
