Home Runs By Claytor And Ware Lead Southern Virginia University Softball To Sweep over Salem College

Buena Vista, Va.- The Southern Virginia University Softball was led by impressive performances from behind the plate by Claytor and Ware, and from Stauffer atop the mound to come away victorious in a doubleheader matchup against Salem College this Tuesday.

Game 1

The Southern Virginia University Softball overtook the Salem College Spirits in an impressive offensive feat led by Katie Claytor, who racked up an impressive three hits, and one homerun, to accumulate four RBIs and lead the Knights to a 10-3 win in the opening game.

The Knights took control of the batting box early, scoring two runs in the first inning, and two more in the third inning. The defensive side of the Knights showed early on as well, with the first out of the game being a caught stolen base.

Starting the second half of the game, Southern Virginia University kept up their offensive momentum. With four runs already on the board, Dykell Jones shuttled a ball out to right center, reaching third base. The next at bat was Katie Claytor, who hammered a double down the left line, sending Jones home.

The offensive powerhouse struck in the sixth inning, where hits by six Knights in a row contributed to the five runs scored in this inning. Katie Clayor slammed a homerun in this inning to really drive in the win.

Game 2

Southern Virginia did not stop the power in game two, pulling a 6-0 shutout sweep over the Salem College Spirits. The Knights controlled the game from the first inning, scoring early and maintaining their lead throughout the game.

The Knights put two runs on the board in the first inning, taking advantage of a few errors by the Spirits. Each inning the Knights continued to add another run to the board until the big fifth inning, where Taelor ware smashed a two-run homer, extending the lead 5-0 and settling the win for the Knights.

Malia Stauffer dominated the mound for a complete game win, while allowing only four hits in the entire game, and striking out four as well.

The offensive and defensive pursuits by the Knights paid off and led them to a dominant victory in this doubleheader against Salem.

The Knights work to keep up this momentum in another home series against Pfeiffer on April 4th at 2:00 and 4:00 PM.
