Lexington, Va. - The Southern Virginia University Baseball team took a trip to Washington and Lee University Tuesday night in a non-conference single game matchup. The Knights fell to the Generals 5-2.
The Knights gave up all five runs in the bottom of the first. The Generals rallied behind a series of base hits to get five on the board. That didn't stop the Knights from putting together a response in the top of the second. Garrett Stauffer doubled to left field to bring two of his teammates home, recording two RBIs.
The game became a stalemate as both sides held each other scoreless for five innings. In the top of the eighth Robert Stempin grounded out to the shortstop and allowed Stockton Hall to score and close the deficit to 5-3.
That would be the Knights last chance to score, ending the game after a hard fought nine innings with a score of 5-3.Â
Next the Knights will head to Fredericksburg, Virginia for a doubleheader against Mary Washington University on March 8.
