Fredericksburg Va. - The Southern Virginia University Baseball team took on Mary Washington University in a double header on Saturday afternoon. The Knights fell to the Eagles in both games, 13-4 and 10-1.
The Knights held a stalemate with the Eagles through the bottom of the third. Brooks Burdette led the way with three assists on outs, a few of which went to first baseman Stockton Hall who recorded six putouts in game one. Despite a valiant defensive effort, by the fifth inning the Knights were down 10-0.
Southern Virginia tried to respond in the top of the sixth led by a Ryan Farris double to center field for two RBIs. Benjamin Horsley and Hall knocked a pair of hits past the infield for two more runs to make the score 10-4. Mary Washington added a few more runs in their half of the sixth up 13-4. The Knights couldn't respond in the top of the seventh and the game ended 13-4.
In game two, Seth Lloyd led the way defensively with three assists to Hall's six putouts. The Knights had a quiet game with only one run scored off of a David Hunley single to center field. The Eagles rallied a few times throughout the seven inning matchup and closed out the game with a 10-1 win.
The Knights return home for a single game matchup against Virginia Wesleyan on March 11.
