Harrisonburg, Va. – The Southern Virginia University softball team showcased resilience and firepower in their doubleheader against Eastern Mennonite University, battling through a heartbreaking extra-inning loss before roaring back with a dominant Game 2 victory.
Game 1: Extra-Inning Thriller Ends in Tough Loss (10-11)
The Knights came out strong, putting up runs in the first, third, and fourth innings to build an early lead. Taelor Ware was a force at the plate, driving in four RBIs, while Ari Prymak delivered an impressive four-hit performance. However, Eastern Mennonite stormed back with a four-run sixth inning to tie the game.
Southern Virginia retook the lead in the ninth on a clutch hit from Prymak, but Eastern Mennonite matched the effort to send the game into extra innings. In the tenth, Prymak again delivered to give the Knight's the advantage, but the Royals managed a walk-off win to take the opener.
Game 2: Knights Respond with Offensive Explosion (16-4)
The Knights wasted no time bouncing back, erupting for seven runs in the third inning to take full control. Prymak continued her hot streak, going 4-for-5 with two RBIs, while Katie Claytor had a monster game, finishing 4-for-4 with a home run, triple, and two RBIs. Sophia Badell also left her mark, blasting a home run of her own.
Southern Virginia offense racked up 18 hits, taking advantage of defensive miscues from EMU to keep the pressure on. In the circle, Prymak delivered a dominant complete-game performance, allowing just four runs on seven hits to seal the run-rule victory.
The Knights move to 4-4 on the season and will travel to Roanoke on March 8th for another doubleheader, with games set for 1:00 and 3:00 PM.
