Southern Virginia University Softball Falls in Close Series Against Roanoke

Salem, Va. - The Southern Virginia University softball team put up a strong and resilient fight, but ultimately fell in two narrow losses.

Game 1

The first game started with an early Knights lead, and defensive strength, as Taelor Ware pitched 5 solid innings allowing no earned runs.

The Knights broke the scoreless tie in the third inning, gaining from a defensive error from Roanoke that allowed Kayla Autry to score. In the fourth, Southern Virginia University extended their lead as Sophia Badell hit an RBI single, bringing home Dykell Jones to make it 2-0.

With a score of 2-0, Roanoke stepped up to bat in the 6th inning and was able to obtain two runs, and finally pushed their win across the board with a game winning run from a defensive SVU error in the last inning totaling the score at 3-2.

Game 2

With a determined spirit, the Knights returned to the field for game two, starting by pressuring Roanoke's defense. With an ultimately scoreless first half, Southern Virginia University first decorated the scoreboard with a hit by Kayla Autry in the fifth inning.

Katie Claytor and Sophia Badell responded to Roanoke's hits with an impressive combination that tied the score at 2-2. Ultimately, the Knights were not able to combat Roanoke's intense offense and fell short, losing 4-2.

Despite the losses, we saw strong performances from Taelor Ware and Malia Stauffer on the mound, and Kayla Autry and Sophia Badell at the plate.

The Knights look forward to playing Bluefield State at 1 and 3 PM on March 12th.
