Buena Vista, VA - In an April Fool's Day match up, the Southern Virginia University women's lacrosse team proved they weren't the ones to be fooled. A flurry of goals helped the Knights extend their win streak with an imposing victory of 19-1.
The Knights wasted no time getting things started. Reagan Bullock got the ball rolling by scoring the first goal of the game. Then, Kenzie Poulsen teamed with Ellie Patterson to knock in two more goals during the first. Patterson also set up Paysen Grandy for a goal near the end of the quarter.
The second quarter saw Southern Virginia grow their lead with a pair of goals from Mia Richards. Sydney Bastian added to the lead after she earned herself a free position attempt to tally another goal.
Makenzie Mickelsen eventually scored her second goal of the evening in what would turn into a stellar performance. The half ended with the Knights leading 11-0, limiting the Falcons to almost no scoring opportunities.

Mickelsen kept her hot streak going in the third, slinging another two shots into the goal. Mickelsen finished as the game's leading scorer with five goals and three assists—one of which set up Bastian in the third for her second of the day. Mickelsen showed her versatility on defense, picking up six ground balls. Patterson and Poulsen each recorded hat tricks, scoring at the end of the third and fourth quarters, respectively.
The lone goal for Pfeiffer was scored during the fourth, but the damage was well beyond repair. Mariela Perez and Gracie Blake would close out the scoring with goals of their own in the final minutes. It was Blake's first goal of her young career. Ultimately, Southern Virginia would beat the Falcons, 19-1.
The Knights outshot the Falcons by a wide margin, thanks to successful clears and forcing the Falcon's into 33 turnovers. Bastian was a leading force in causing three of them while picking up multiple ground balls.
With the win, the Knights are now 4-2 in conference play and riding a two-game winning streak. Southern Virginia will remain at home to host Meredith College on Saturday, April 5th, at 4:00 PM. Meredith College is currently undefeated in conference play and leads all teams in goals scored.
