Fayetteville, N.C. - The Southern Virginia University Knights won the first matchup of the doubleheader against the Methodist Monarchs and dropped the second game with scores of 8-3, and then 4-0, respectively.
The Knights trailed behind the Monarchs for the first couple of innings, but came out swinging in the top of the third. A double by Chloe Nelson got the ball rolling for the Knights and sent two runners already on base home.Â
The fifth inning held some offensive power for Southern Virginia University with three runs following hits by Chloe Nelson and Katie Claytor. Aggressive baserunning and perfectly placed hits led the Knights atop this inning, with the score reading 5-1.Â
Methodist tried to fight back, scoring two runs in the bottom of the fifth, but the Knights were not to be stopped and rounded out the seventh inning adding three more runs.Â
Southern Virginia was able to take advantage of fielding errors made and extend their bases while also maintaining a .406 batting average as a team from the plate.Â
The second game left the Knights at a stand still with the Monarchs, unable to drive in any runs. Katie Claytor led the offense with two hits, but runners were left on base and Methodist's defense allowed no runs. The Knights ended the game losing 4-0. n
The Knights will take on the Greensboro Pride next, on Wednesday, April 16th at 2:00 and 4:00 PM in Greensboro, North Carolina.Â
