Southern Virginia Men's Volleyball Captures Pair Of Sweeps In Salem

Salem, VA - To open the final week of the regular season, the Southern Virginia University men's volleyball team joined Roanoke and Lynchburg for a tri-match in Salem. The Knights easily took care of business, winning both of their matches in straight sets.

Match One

After getting out of the gates rather slowly in the opening match against Lynchburg, Christian Sheaffer and Kyler Evans supplied plenty of offense to help the Knights surge past the Hornets in set one, winning by a score of 25-14.

The script was flipped at the beginning of the second as the Knights raced out to a 5-2 lead and never looked back. Kristo Bianchin was on point, hammering down several kills and recording a block to help the effort. He served for the final three points in a dominant win in the second frame.

In the third, four different Knights recorded aces to keep the attack rolling. In the end, Jeremy Brown and Curtis Stone combined for a huge block to end the day for the Hornets in a sweep. They heavily outhit their opponents, doubling up the Hornets in kills with 36.

Match Two

For the second time this season, Southern Virginia faced the day's host, Roanoke College. Early on, the Knights didn't look as if they finished a match just an hour prior. They raced to big lead on the strength of a balanced attack and superb defense.

Jeremy Brown led a surge of five straight points to put their opponents to bed in the first, claiming a 25-11 win. In the second, defense remained a big catalyst for the Knights success as they recorded several blocks. Kristo Bianchin also kept the ball rolling on the attack en route to a season high of nine kills.

Steady play from Gehrig Tolman and Justin Madsen helped the Knights finish the night on a high note. Tolman collected two blocks and Madsen finished another match with double-digit digs to capture set three, 25-16, improving the Knights' record to 28-1.
