Southern Virginia University Softball Trade Wins In Doubleheader Against Brevard

Buena Vista, Va.- The Southern Virginia University Knights took the first game in a two game conference series against the Brevard Tornados in a Saturday afternoon matchup, winning 8-3. The second game held a defeat for the Knights, with the final score reading 1-4.

Game 1

In the first game, both teams remained scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning, where Katie Claytor smashed a homerun, starting the dominant offensive pursuit for the Knights. Brevard responded in the top of the fifth, adding a run to the board, but Southern Virginia was not to be stopped.

The bottom of the fifth brought another Katie Claytor hit, a double to center field, followed by a homer hit out of the park by Taelor Ware, her fourth this season. This duo has had quite the impact this season, sitting atop the leaderboards of homeruns hit, along with Sophia Badell

The sixth inning brought the victory for the Knights, complete with five hits, and all five of those players rounding the bases to make it back home. A right field triple by Claylor, and a left field double by Ware were highlights of this inning.

The Knights finished the game with a five run lead, winning 8-3.

Game 2

Southern Virginia returned to the field for the second game, looking to keep fighting and stay atop, however, an early scoring run from Brevard college left the Knights stuck and at a loss to power back.

Inning three left the Knights down by 4 runs. They battled to recover the deficit in the bottom of the third inning, where Veronica Anderson was able to get on base with a single to center field, and after a stolen base and another single by Cheyenne Pepe was sent back to the home plate, bringing in the first run for the Knights.

The home team tried without luck to continue on with this offensive momentum, but was trumped by Brevard's defense and were unable to score again. The Knights lost 4-1, but will look to take both games in their next matchup with Methodist, another conference game on April 12th and 1:00 and 3:00 PM.
